This week at East Wickham has been full of curiosity, discovery and excitement as we celebrated Science Week 2026! The children across the school took part in a range of activities designed to encourage them to ask questions, investigate ideas and think like scientists.
Our KS1 Science Fair was a fantastic opportunity for the children to explore different scientific questions through observation and discussion. The children visited a range of investigation stations where they watched experiments taking place, thought carefully about what they could see and talked about what might be happening. They were brilliantly supported by some of our amazing Year 6 helpers, who demonstrated the investigations and helped the younger children think about the science behind them.
Some of the questions they explored included:
· Which surface will stop the car’s movement the fastest?
· Which material is the best to use for pegs to keep our washing on a washing line?
· Which material should we wear at night?
· Does wearing gloves affect our sense of touch?
· Does covering one eye affect our sense of sight?
Our KS2 Science Fair was extremely impressive. The children created and brought in their own science projects to present to Miss Jacobs, Mr Jeffers and the rest of the KS2 pupils. The projects were brilliant and it was clear how much effort, creativity and time had gone into them. The children confidently explained their investigations, shared their results and answered questions about their work. We were incredibly proud of the effort and dedication shown by everyone who took part.
🏆 Year 3 Winner: Leela

🏆 Year 5 Winner: Eisha, Nyra and Jiya
🏆 Year 6 Winner: Eisha, Liyana and Aahana
🌟 Overall Science Fair Winner: Evan
On Wednesday, the whole school joined a live online assembly titled “Science Week 2026 – Ocean Depths: What Lies Beneath?” where we explored the mysteries of the deep ocean and discovered some of the fascinating creatures and environments found beneath the sea.
To finish the week, on Friday all classes took part in an online science lesson, bringing the week to a brilliant close and giving everyone another opportunity to learn something new.
Science Week has been a wonderful celebration of curiosity and learning at East Wickham. A huge well done to all of the children who took part — you truly showed what fantastic scientists you are!
